ABOUT TRENTO

Trento is a lovely town (100.000 inhabitants) just 2 hours away from the Austrian border: thus Trento is culturally Italian but with a hint of Austrian influence, especially in some dishes (like canederli) and some folk events (the Christmas market which takes place in piazza Fiera). The founding of the city dates back to the Roman age (entering from piazza Battisti you can walk through Roman ruins: gates, roads, houses) but Trento was fully developed during the Renaissance period, as witnessed by the magnificent “Magno Palazzo” in the BuonconsiglioCastle (we recommend that you visit the “Torre Aquila” with its beautiful frescoes). Bernardo Clesio, the Bishop Prince of Trento, prepared the town for the Council of Trento (1545-1563), embellishing it with beautiful frescoes on the palaces' facades that have been recently restored.
The Adige river runs through the city, surrounded by mountains which, in winter, invite you to ski and skate on the frozen lakes. Those of you who love art and nature, will find a perfect combination of these two elements in Trento. We will be happy to suggest the most appealing places according to your interests (caves, canyons, castles, churches and sanctuaries that date back to the Roman age, and so on).
